Don’t Call it a Wedding
When you’re getting quotes from vendors, don’t call your event a wedding. Many florists, bakeries, photographers, and musicians mark up their services (sometimes by a lot!) just for weddings. Instead of getting a quote for a wedding cake, tell the baker you need a tasteful cake for a party of 100 guests (it could very well be a retirement do or corporate party); or tell the photographer you need someone to cover an outdoor event for about 6 hours (it could be a school’s sport event). You’ll definitely need to tell them it’s a wedding before you sign the contract, but this way you can get a ballpark figure of their services and query why it’s inflated if they do bump it up when they learn that it’s a wedding.
