South Africa’s Top Campsites To Pitch Your Tent
From the coastal areas just outside Cape Town, to the majestic beauty of the Drakensberg, South African campsites have it all! And the best part is, if you have the right tent they are more than happy to host anything from a single family to a special event. Below we’ve included (in what is our opinion) 10 of the best of them.
Tietiesbaai Beach Camp, West Coast
Situated in the Cape Columbine Nature Reserve (just 6 km’s away from Paternoster), this popular camping spot is on the west coast of South Africa (in the Western Cape) and is a favourite destination for outdoorsy types looking for stunning natural backdrops and who have a yearning for something a little more rugged.
Fiddlers Creek Campsite, Orange River
With what could be called one of the most enviable locations in the world, the Fiddler Creek Campsite is a tent lovers paradise. For those who love a few mod cons with their wilderness, look no further than the bar, pool table and volley ball court which are part and parcel of this fun outdoors venue.
Beaverlac Camping, Cederberg
Bring the dogs, kids and cousins, because this pet and family friendly campers paradise is an easy 2 hours drive from Cape Town (and situated in the foothills of the Olifants River Mountains). Loved by locals and nature lovers alike, this is the best place to experience caves, bike trails, rock pools and some of the most spectacular backdrops that one will ever find behind one of our Stretch Tents.
Tsendze Rustic Camping, Kruger National Park
What more can be said about the internationally renowned Kruger National Park than WOW! This camp boasts 30 camp sites and is home to elephant, buffalo, zebra and numerous antelope species. Keep an eye out however, because lions and leopard have also been spotted in the vicinity so don’t wonder off at night. In our opinion, this is one of the best sites for camping or even as a special events venue.
Mahai River Campsite, Royal Natal National Park
Stunning, stunning, stunning! A site to set up a tent that is so amazing that it needs three of the same hard hitting words to describe it. This is natural splendour at it greatest and it is situated in a Royal Park to boot. It offers offers clean ablution blocks and washing up facilities (although that is a given on all of the camping sites on this post), as well as electric and non-electric campsites. If you can wangle it, this is again another great site for a special event (as long as it is out of season).
